We had the young marrieds from our Bible Study group over a while ago for dinner. This is always a great time with lots of laughter and fun to be had by all. Whenever I host it, I try and find a random holiday for that day that can be our theme for the evening. This night happened to be National Hairball Awareness Day, which meant that there were all kinds of hairball jokes/comments.
Jeremy and Mike
We ate lots of amazing food!
Katie and Heidi

 We played Mafia.

Cortni and Sky
People were dying left and right for very odd reasons. (Not really dying, just in the game)
Lewis and Jamie
The stories/alibis-es got pretty crazy.
When it came time to accuse each other, husbands and wives were trying to convict each other. In fact, at one time both Jeremy and I were on trial. I said, for my defense, that I had been in bed all night sound asleep and that there was no way I could be the mafia. Jeremy chimed in, 'Well we share the same bed and she wasn't in bed at all last night'. Everyone then voted me to be a mafia and kicked me out of the playing. I was totally an innocent towns person!! Jer callously threw me under the bus. And laughed about it!
We all needed marriage counseling at the end of the night.

Oh look in the background, flowers!  Guess what #10 says, Buy fresh flowers when having guests three times in a row, Night 1-check!

Explain how you play your version of Mafia. I throw dinner parties and would love to try this!

    Hi Maggie,
Thanks for stopping by. Mafia: First you'll need a deck of cards. Pull out 2 Aces (for up to about 10 people, if more add another ace or 2 for a really large group--if really large group and you are using 3-4 mafia then add a deputy to help the sheriff by using the queen), 1 King, 1 Jack and then number cards for the rest. The total number of cards would equal 1 less than the people you have playing as you will need a narrator. Aces are Mafia, King is Sheriff, Jack is Doctor, Numbers are Townspeople.

The narrator shuffles the cards and then passes them out to everyone who needs to keep their card hidden. Narrator then starts the game by making up a town name and telling everyone to go to sleep-everyone must close their eyes at this point. Then the narrator will ask the mafia to wake up and identify themselves (quietly) and then go back to sleep, then ask the Dr to wake up and go back to sleep, then ask the Sheriff to wake up then go back to sleep.
Again- you want to keep your identity a secret as long as possible.

Playing the game: With everyone asleep, narrator asks the mafia to wake up and kill someone-which they do by pointing. Next, the narrator asks the Sheriff to wake up and point to someone that s/he thinks is the mafia. Let them know by a head nod/shake if they are right. Sheriff goes back to sleep. Next, the DR is woken up and can point to 1 person to save (can save him/herself if they want), and goes back to sleep.

The narrator wakes everyone up and breaks the sad news of a death in the night (unless the DR saved the right person-then no deaths occurred). The townspeople/everyone is now allowed to make accusations of who they think is the mafia, try and convince others to agree. Once you have at least two names that people want to put on trial, each person is given an chance to make their defense, then the townspeople all vote on who they think is the mafia. Majority vote puts someone to death. If indeed they are a mafia, narrator will announce it. Then, narrator puts everyone to sleep and you start over. The people who were killed now can keep their eyes open, but aren't allowed to say anything.

The game continues in this manner until all mafia have been killed or they have killed off all the townspeople. The sheriff and Dr can choose to reveal their identity at any point in the game if it will help their case to convict someone.
The more creative the stories are about the killings or your defense the better. If you want to play another game switch someone else out to be the narrator.

If there are still questions just ask. Hope you have fun!
